UPDATE 07/2012 - I've now owned these for four years and they are going strong. HOWEVER, it has been brought to my attention that the company has chanced the product and may not be using all metal grommets/other which impacts quality negatively. Personally, I hate it when a company ruins an otherwise terrific product in the attempt to save a few cents. Mine are still going strong four years later but new buyers may wish to take a serious look at quality before purchasing due to lack of all metal grommets/other.
What I dislike:
№ 1: The sprinkler does not spray a 35-ft square area like the packaging said it would. There may be a water pressure issue at the house I'm using it on so I made alibi this complaint until I get the inline hose water pressure increaser box. At that time they'll be no more excuses if it doesn't go 35' by 35'.
№ 2: The Jets Don't spray and equal amount of water within the box pattern. One of the reasons I wanted to get away from the ratcheting circular sprinklers is because they typically dump more water in the first 50% of distance and in the final 50% of distance. Unfortunately, I'm finding a similar trait with this sprinkler although the percentages may not be quite 50/50, the rain gauge closest to the sprinkler will fill before the outer rim of the square rain gauges do.
№ 3: The corners spray more water than the sides do. A selling point on the sprinkler was the fact that could get into corners. Unfortunately, if you think of the letter "X", the ends of the "X"would get more water than a plus sign, "+" side. I mitigate this a little bit by turning the sprinkler at a 45° angle, but this often overshoots the targeted area into an area I've already watered and into an area I've yet to water.
If it sounds like I have sour grapes: it's only because I do! I had high hopes for this sprinkler and it really didn't even come halfway to what I was expecting from it.
We shall see what the increased water pressure may bring....
======°°==========
It is now August 24th some 2 months later and I finally got the water pressure booster pump in line with the garden hose to the Nelson sprinkler.
While the pump is getting the sprinkler to do about double or a little better than what it was doing at 35 PSI house pressure, it is still not coming close to the 35 ft by 35 ft it said on the Amazon web page and on the cardboard packaging. I'm barely getting a 25 ft by 25 ft from a 70 PSI pressure booster pump.
I guess I'll check the pressure from the pressure booster to see if it is actually 70 PSI but I highly doubt that it's that far off.
I don't recommend buying this sprinkler cuz even at 20 bucks I had to buy an $80 pressure booster just to even still not get to 25 fest by 25 feet for my front lawn.
=======
Late last night on August 24th I tested the pressure from the hose bib to where the sprinkler hooks up with the booster pump. The pressure gauge I used said that it reached 70 lb per square inch.
Therefore, it is not the hose that is causing a pressure drop and the booster pump is doing its job as advertised of getting the pressure to 70 PSI.
I consider it a fraud that this packaging and website said it would do a 35 ft by 35 ft square. Very similar to when you buy paint gallon cans and they say they'll do 400 square feet in coverage and you will be lucky to get 250 ft out of them.
This said, since I'm already "pot-committed" with one $22.00 purchase of the sprinkler and an $80.00 purchase of the booster pump, just to get another $20.00 sprinkler so that I don't have to spend two hours washed watering the lawn. The southern part of my lawn is divided by sidewalk and is only 3 to 4 ft wide. This requires me to power down the sprinkler greatly so I don't end up watering half of the neighbor's lawn. I wish rectangular sprinklers were available.
And like the rotating sprinklers, the nearest 50% distance gets twice as much water as the farthest 50% distance if this thing isn't used at full blast or used at minimum power.
I think it would just be better to get some flexible black hose with some spray fittings and just snake that throughout the lawn and be done with it.
This is what I wish I did now knowing that all these new portable sprinklers are garbage.
BOTTOM LINE:
Unless you're looking at this as a $100.00 value type sprinkler, which is what's going to be my final class when it's all said and done, I recommend you seek another option.
P.S.
I have not been a fan of those throw-the-water-10 feet-in-the-air style sprinklers because the prevailing winds generally cause the water to move off of the property lines causing the edge of the property lines either get flooded or parched depending which direction the wind is going.
